General Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, also known as Ultrasound Technologists, provide essential support to medical teams and doctors who need an inside view of their patient’s condition.

The two-year Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is focused on training students in small parts and specialized sonography, OB/GYN sonography, and abdominal sonography. Students will learn how to use the latest imaging equipment. The program is designed to help them prepare for real-world situations, and get specific training in patient care techniques, medical and legal ethics, interpersonal communication, and professional development.

Why Diagnostic Medical Sonography?

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program takes place in an on-campus clinical lab where students receive hands-on training from supportive, knowledgeable instructors with real-life experience in the healthcare industry. Program curriculum combines classroom and hands-on practical training in the following areas:

  • How to perform diagnostic procedures and obtain diagnostic images
  • Assisting physicians when evaluating pain, swelling, infection, and other symptoms
  • Identifying, examining, and assessing internal organs, including the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, uterus, ovaries, thyroid and scrotum/testicles
  • Technique for examining a fetus in pregnant patients
  • How to guide imaging procedures, including needle biopsies and drainage procedures

Jumpstart Your Career in Healthcare

Students of the Caris College Diagnostic Medical Sonography program will be eligible to take the ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) for Abdomen and OB/GYN registry exams and, upon graduation, will be prepared to launch their careers as entry-level Sonographers where they can seek employment in a variety of healthcare settings, such as:
