Practical Nurses are a critical part of a healthcare team and provide essential support to doctors and registered nurses by delivering compassionate care to patients.

The 12-month Practical Nursing program is designed to help students learn through a collaborative approach based on relationship-centered care and is focused on training students to perform a wide range of patient care functions. To ensure students receive a well-rounded education, the practical nursing classes include instruction with hands-on application in multiple nursing disciplines, including medical-surgical nursing, maternal nursing, pediatric and geriatric nursing, as well as mental health nursing.

Graduates of the program will earn a Practical Nursing Diploma and will be prepared to enter the healthcare field with the basic skills necessary to launch entry-level nursing careers under the supervision of a doctor or an RN.

Graduates of the Caris College Practical Nursing program will be eligible to sit for their licensure exam through the National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX-PN). Students who successfully complete the NCLEX-PN will receive a compact license to practice in most states. If desired, students may then apply for licensure in states not participating in the compact agreement. Indiana and Kentucky currently participate in the compact agreement. Graduates can seek employment in a variety of healthcare settings, such as:

  • Medical Practices
  • Hospitals
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Urgent Care Centers
  • Rehabilitation Centers
