The 10-month Veterinary Assistant program is designed to equip students with the highest quality, up-to-date clinical and administrative skills necessary to launch careers in the world of veterinary science. Taught by instructors with extensive experience in the field of veterinary medicine, the program includes hands-on training in a fully operational clinical lab, as well as industry-recognized training and certification requirements to fulfill a variety of roles at any veterinary office.

Why Veterinary Assistant?

Students in the Veterinary Assistant program learn the necessary skills required to deliver essential support to veterinary technicians and doctors. The program curriculum includes hands-on and classroom training in the following areas:

  • Surgical preparation to assist technicians and doctors with preparing animals for elective and emergency surgeries
  • Pharmacology, including basic dosage calculations and drug uses, reactions, and routes
  • Preparation of various laboratory procedures and testing protocols, such as microscopic fecal exam and skin scraping, DTM, urine specific gravity and sediment exam, and staining techniques
  • Animal restraint techniques for treatment, procedures, and exams, such as blood draws, rectal exams, ear cleaning, etc.
  • Proper client communication and education, vaccine protocols, and preventions
  • Clerical responsibilities such as filing patient records, faxing, and communication with other veterinary offices

Jumpstart Your Career in Months, Not Years

Graduates of our Vet Assistant school are eligible to take the approved vet assistant examination to earn the Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA) designation and receive a certificate upon successful completion. Caris College Veterinary Assistant graduates can use their professional training and certifications to seek employment in a variety of clinical settings, such as:
